Compliance and Design Support Engineer

As part of the R&D Support team, you will be responsible for ensuring all designs meet technical and legal requirements. The role will require working in cross functional teams to ensure our products meet EMC, environmental, reliability and safety specifications.

You will be responsible for testing and the documentation of our compliance program. The role is very hands on, using both mechanical and electronic skills, with the need to understand the operational use of our products.

Previous experience would be advantageous but not essential, we are looking for an engineer who has the capacity to learn, develop and would take diligence for their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Developing test plans and ensuring all product are compliant to universal and SSL standards.
  • Participating in electronic and mechanical design reviews, identifying potential risks and providing design solutions and improvements.
  • Performing environmental and stress testing to ensure components are within temperature specifications and safety requirements. This would include reliability and MTBF.
  • Writing technical reports to demonstrate products compliance.
  • Testing products to ensure we meet CE and UL certification. Using standards EN 60950-1, EN 62368-1, EN 55032 and EN 55103-2
  • EMC testing including Emissions, ESD, Magnetics, In-rush, AF and RF Immunity.
  • Liaising and conducting testing at local test houses.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in National and International Standards.
  • Providing feedback to the engineering team on performance and recommended remedies to any non-compliance issues.
  • Develop product operational knowledge and understand typical and worst cases.
  • Product safety and risk analysis.
  • Active role in critical component selection and support with obsolescence.
  • Continuous improvement in the compliance methods and strategy.

Useful Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate calibre with good Engineering degree with an electrical /electronics focus.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and logically analyse problems.
  • Awareness of relevant standards/directives FCC, CE, UL and CB reports.
  • Knowledge of Nationally and International compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of EMC or RF Testing be useful.
  • Ability to diagnose electronic circuitry and perform PCB rework.
  • Understanding of mechanical drawings and good practical assembly skills.
  • Knowledge of Environmental testing including vibration, shock, temperature and humidity.
  • Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer and audio measurement techniques would be desirable.
  • Some programming and audio knowledge would be beneficial.
  • Experience with EMC design and power electronics would be favourable.
  • A Full UK Driving licence.

  • Knowledge of best test practices and risk analysis would be an advantage.
